The eyes of the world are on you! Yes, you read that correctly, the entire world is watching you right now. If your first thought is “why” then let me explain. Chances are if you are reading this then you geographically reside in the United States. Also, right now, as a nation, we are under the world’s microscope.
Regardless of your opinion, the United States has been the leader on the world stage for the last 100 years. We have been the nation to turn to when things get hard and when nobody else will hold leaders accountable. So what has changed? How have we let ourselves become so divided? We have before us two options for President of the United States, Joe Biden, and Donald Trump. Just the fact that these are the only options shows you how we live in some bleak times. It’s pretty evident that Trump is a narcissist, while on the other hand, Biden is having bouts of memory loss and has trouble putting sentences together. Now, what did I just do? I said two things that were both correct but are the only things we like to consider when pointing fingers at the “other side”.

Why is it that we have become a society that removes the element of nuance and complexity it takes to solve the issues of the day?
The answer I believe lies in us as individuals and our ability to look inward and focus on ourselves.
Whether you believe the bible or not, there are some incredible principles that hold true regardless of your belief in the origin. For example, in Matthew chapter 7 it states,  “How can you say to your brother, `Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
I probably lost some of you right there because I just used an ancient text to prove a modern-day point, but this is exactly what I’m talking about! We close off our minds to our own presuppositions so strongly that it inhibits our individual growth! Do you have to agree with everything in the bible to take a concept from its pages? Can we disagree as humans and still keep our humanity?
Adolf Hitler in his rise to power had a quote that is haunting me right now.

“If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.”

What kind of lies are you believing blindly without question? Go through your own ideological beliefs and try to disprove them, trust me, it’s really eye-opening! AND PLEASE, STOP BELIEVING EVERYTHING YOU SEE AND HEAR ON YOUR DEVICES! It doesn’t matter if the rhetoric is from the left or right!
Boomers, I’m talking to you right now, anyone on social media born between 1955 and 1975 needs to have a full-time fact-checker that follows them around!

I have built a business in digital communication and I can tell you first hand that the algorithms currently in use across platforms are specifically designed to show you things you will strongly disagree with.
Currently, there are atrocities being committed by the Republican Party to push Trump into a second term. Simultaneously, there are complete lies being told about the Democratic Party and plans for the future once in control of the White House. My only message is to remind people that the “Right Wing” and the “Left Wing” come from the same bird!

We are citizens of the greatest social experiment known to the human condition!

As a nation, we are currently in the greatest periods of economic prosperity in the history of the free world. We currently lead the world in technology, science, medicine, transportation, and the list goes on and on. If we do not change our mindset and stop the dehumanization of one another we will decline and other nations fill this power vacuum. What this means is a future with less opportunity and more hardship.

“A leader gives articulation to the imagination of a population.”

―  Dr. Jordan Peterson

If you had to stop and read that quote again it’s not a problem, I had to read it two or three times before I grasped what he was trying to convey. Now ask yourself, what kind of a future are you imagining? The fact that the best options put forth by the American people are Biden and Trump is pretty sad! We need to hold ourselves accountable and do better individually and let that ripple effect extend to your family/state/county. (In that order)The current situation shows that roughly half of the country believes that Trump would do an amazing job at a second term, yet they turn a blind eye to aspects of his presidency that are reprehensible. While the other half advocate for change and have a list of reasons why they believe Biden would be a better option. Regardless of who you are planning to vote for, remember this, half of the country is going to be upset in the upcoming weeks and months. Be kind and considerate to your fellow Americans!

Being a good person doesn’t mean voting for the right person, it means treating people with kindness and mutual respect!
